Who is Matt Furie, and what are Hedz? #

Matt Furie is an American artist and cartoonist with one of the most recognisable visual languages in contemporary illustration — soft, funny, faintly melancholy creatures drawn by hand. He created Pepe the Frog, along with Landwolf, Andy and Brett, in his comic Boy's Club, and his books include The Night Riders and Mindviscosity. His work has been the subject of a feature documentary, Feels Good Man.

Hedz is a collection of 1,000 of his drawings, each a one-of-one with its own name, released as NFTs by Chain/Saw LLC in September 2022. They are hand-drawn portraits rather than machine-assembled traits, which is why the collection has no rarity tiers — and why losing the images mattered more than losing a set of generated layers would have.

What happened to the Hedz NFT collection? #

On 23 June 2025 an attacker took ownership of the Hedz contract and rewrote its metadata. Every marketplace has since shown a grey placeholder instead of Matt Furie's artwork. The tokens themselves were not moved and the supply did not change.

Is the Hedz contract still compromised? #

Yes. As of 11 August 2026 ownership still sits with the address that took it in June 2025, and the on-chain image is still the placeholder. Recovering the files does not recover the contract.

Why do marketplaces show a placeholder image? #

Marketplaces read the image location from the contract. When the metadata was rewritten, that location changed. Nothing was deleted — the contract points somewhere else, and only whoever controls it can point it back.

Are the images on this site the real originals? #

Yes, and at a stronger level than a file-by-file comparison. The CID of every one of the 1,000 archival PNGs was recomputed locally, and those 1,000 entries were rebuilt into an IPFS directory node. That reconstruction reproduces QmYWCv…Lagrm exactly — the directory address published in 2022, which nobody holding the contract today can alter. A single flipped bit anywhere in 279 MB would have changed it. Every record shows its own computed CID beside that pin, so you can check without trusting us. The displayed files are WebP derivatives for size; the hashes refer to the archival PNGs.

How many Hedz are there, and who made them? #

1,000, all hand-drawn one-of-ones by Matt Furie, published by Chain/Saw LLC in September 2022. There are no generative traits and no rarity tiers — the original metadata carries only the artist and the work's name.

What is the Hedz contract address? #

0xefed2a58cc6a5b81f9158b231847f005cf086c01 on Ethereum. Check it character for character: collections using this name and this artwork exist on other contracts, and they are not this collection.

Were new Hedz minted after the seizure? #

No. Hedz was capped at 1,000 and fully minted in 2022, so the attacker could take the contract but could not print new tokens. The open-edition collections taken the same week — Peplicator and Zogz — had no ceiling and were flooded.

Is this the official Hedz website? #

No. This is an independent conservation record built by a holder. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Matt Furie, Chain/Saw LLC or any related entity. The official site is hedz.fun, which now resolves to a logo, a terms-of-service link and a link to Furie's X account.

Does this site ask for a wallet connection? #

Never. There is no wallet connection anywhere on this site, no token, and no referral fees on any outbound link. If you ever see a page using this name that asks you to connect a wallet or sign a message, it is not us.
